How to Choose an English Course in Bekasi: 6 Things to Check First

Finding an English course in Bekasi is easy; there are plenty. The hard part is choosing the one that's right for your child. Course fees are a long-term investment, and the wrong choice can put a child off language learning altogether.

Having taught the children of Bekasi since 1997, we know exactly what separates a great course from an average one. Here are 6 things to check before you enrol.

1. A placement test, not just "join by age"

Ask: "How do you determine my child's level?" If the answer is based only on age or school grade, be careful. Two fourth-graders can have wildly different language abilities. A serious course always runs a placement test so your child learns at the level that fits: neither overwhelmed nor bored.

2. Small class sizes

Language is mastered by using it, not memorising it. In a class of 25, each child might get one or two minutes of speaking time. Look for small classes where the teacher knows every child: their name, their strengths, and what they need to work on next.

3. Teachers experienced with children

Being fluent in English doesn't automatically mean someone can teach children. Teaching kids takes patience, games, songs, and a completely different way of explaining things than teaching adults. Ask about the teachers: how long have they taught children? Are they certified?

4. A clear level ladder

A good course has progression: your child knows where they are and what comes next. As an example, VEC's ladder runs from Kindy (kindergarten), Pre Kid, Red Kid, Blue Kid (primary), through Conversation Junior/Senior (junior and senior high), up to TOEFL Preparation. A clear ladder makes progress measurable, not just "they've been in lessons a long time".

5. An atmosphere your child enjoys

Visit before enrolling, and bring your child. Watch: do the students there look happy? Are the classrooms comfortable? A child who looks forward to lesson day will progress far faster than one who feels dragged along.

6. Transparent fees

Ask for the total cost upfront: registration, tuition, books, and exams. A good course is open about its fees, with no hidden costs appearing later.
